My Journey to Becoming an Author

The Story Behind the Writer: A Journey of Adventure and Words

They say life is an adventure, and for me, that couldn’t be more true. My journey to becoming a writer wasn’t a straight path but rather a winding road paved with experiences, discoveries, and a deep passion for storytelling.

I was born into a military family, which meant traveling was a way of life. Every new place I lived, every culture I encountered, planted the seeds of curiosity and a love for storytelling. My dream was to be a National Geographic photojournalist—capturing stories through words and images. But life had other plans, and instead, I found myself in the world of nursing, caring for critically ill cardiac patients for over 30 years.

Then, in 2006, my husband and I embarked on a life-changing adventure. We sold our home, moved onto our 40-foot sailboat, and set sail across the Gulf of Mexico. For two years, we called Guatemala home, exploring Central America, immersing ourselves in different cultures, and even volunteering at a village medical clinic. That experience, especially my time with the Maya people, left an indelible mark on my soul.

When we returned, I knew I had a story to tell. I pursued my passion for writing, completing an MA in Fiction in 2017 and an MFA in Creative Writing in 2018. Two manuscripts later, I took a leap of faith and became an indie author. The dream I had long held—to transport readers to different worlds—was finally coming true.

Now, I invite you to join me on this literary adventure. My hope is that my books offer you an escape, an experience, and a journey you’ll want to take over and over again.
